Strategic long-term planning within the air freight sector by FedEx sees them secure a long-term deal with Atlas Air to provide additional air cargo capacity during peak shipping seasons. Atlas Air will be supporting Fedex with the provision of five additional Boeing 747-400 air freighters commencing next year through to 2021.
This increased capacity is required to help Fedex manage their peak season for air freight which includes December and potentially late November. The new agreement is an extension to plans already confirmed for the holiday season in 2016.
For the air freight sector, it's an encouraging arrangement and signal of confidence as it marks the first long-term partnership between the two companies. Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings president and chief executive William Flynn added:
“We have worked closely and successfully with FedEx for many years, but this is our first agreement that allows both companies to plan for the longer term. We are excited to continue to serve FedEx and its customers.”
