Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante
“Bandit” in English, this small, twin-engined Brazilian aircraft is known for its low operating costs and proven reliability. It’s a good choice for transporting smaller loads over short-to-medium distances.
Built for Any Mission
Proven Aircraft for Cargo and Regional Transport
The Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante is a light transport, twin-engine turboprop aircraft designed by Embraer as a general-purpose aircraft for military and civil use. It was customized to suit a variety of roles and operator requirements including aerial observation, maritime patrol, and search and rescue missions. It was outfitted with a pressurized cabin and able to accommodate up to 18 seats as a passenger carrier.
The aircraft is widely used to carry freight, especially on regional routes where larger jets are less practical. Its cargo-hauling capabilities are one of its biggest strengths, particularly for short- to medium-range routes with smaller payloads. It includes a large cargo door on the left side of the aircraft aft of the wing for easy loading and unloading of bulky cargo. The interior cargo area has a flat, unobstructed floor to accommodate pallets, pallet boxes, packages, light industrial parts, and a variety of express mail.
Its powerful turboprop engines are key to its short takeoff and landing capabilities and make it more than a match for operations in rugged, underdeveloped areas with limited infrastructure. Its modular design makes field repairs and overhauls easy and fast, which is a big plus for field operations and mechanics dedicated to working in remote areas.

Cargo Capacity & Access
The EMB-110 was designed with an aft cargo door that hinges upward for easier handling of larger freight. The floor, extending from just behind the cockpit to the rear of the fuselage, is flat and unobstructed. The cargo area holds approximately 490 cubic feet of usable volume, with a maximum weight of 3,500 pounds.
The interior is equipped with multiple tie-down locations to secure loads, and sometimes includes rollers on the floor to help maneuver larger pallets and crates. All cargo and passenger loading doors are located on the left side of the aircraft. The large, aft cargo door is 75 inches in width and 55 inches in height.
TYPES OF CARGO
The cargo space is ideal for transporting:
Bulk containers or pallet bins.
Small freight and packages.
Miscellaneous loose cargo.
Express mail.
Perishable goods such as seafood and pharmaceuticals.

Range & Routes
With its advantages in short takeoff and landing, powerful fuel-efficient engines, and ability to operate in underdeveloped areas, the EMB-110 is best used for short-haul operations where flying larger aircraft is less economical or cannot operate due to lack of necessary infrastructure.
Airport Requirements
While the EMB-110 enjoys flying from well-equipped and serviced regional airports with asphalt or concrete runways, it is at home in rugged, underdeveloped areas with limited infrastructure where it is capable of operating from compacted gravel or dirt strips with limited length and in rough conditions.
Taxiway Width: The minimum recommended edge-to-edge width of a taxiway for the aircraft is 50 feet wide.
Parking Apron Space: If available, the recommended space around the aircraft needed for ground service equipment is 80 feet x 80 feet to accommodate its wingspan and clearance for service vehicles during loading and unloading.
Ground Handling: Belt loaders and carts are recommended for the speedy and efficient handling of light cargo, small containers, and loose packages. Forklifts are recommended for bulkier, heavier cargo. The aircraft has a steerable nosewheel, so a tow tractor for pushback or tow is optional.
Fueling: Refueling may be carried out using fuel trucks. The EMB-110’s fuel capacity is up to 450 gallons, depending on the payload and flight distance.
Power and Air Support: The EMB-110 does not normally have an internal auxiliary power unit and requires a ground power unit to power internal systems when the engines are off. Battery starts for the engines can be used in cases where a ground power unit is not available.
Runway Requirements
Takeoff Runway Length: At maximum payload, the EMB-110 typically requires only 3,000 feet of runway for takeoff. With lighter payloads, the aircraft can take off on even shorter runways. This requirement may vary based on altitude, temperature, and wind conditions. High-altitude airports with elevations over 8,000 feet may require slightly longer runways due to lower air density.
Landing Runway Length: At maximum payload, the aircraft typically requires a runway length of only 2,200 feet. Wet, icy, or unpaved runways may increase the minimum landing distance required for safe operation.
Crew
The EMB-110 is flown with two pilots. Additional cargo support personnel may be assigned to the flight by the carrier to monitor the cargo and coordinate precise end-to-end delivery.

Not all casinos are located in populated areas that are easy to get to. In fact many are found in sleepy, remote areas visited by retirees and weekend visitors where the nearest large airport is more than two and a half hours away, and the primary access is the slower coastal highways or country roads.
The Challenge
One such casino in a town of 11,000 people experienced a failure of one of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units on top of its hotel. While it was the middle of the week and occupancy was on the lighter side, a three-day weekend was approaching, and capacity was expected to be full. The current occupants could be moved to empty rooms in the unaffected areas of the hotel, but new customers would need rooms in perfect working order.
Not having experienced an emergency like an HVAC failure before, the new hotel manager consulted with the facilities maintenance department about the immediate repair of the failed HVAC unit. The chief engineer said the maintenance team had attempted repair on the unit, but it could not be repaired and would need to be replaced. The chief engineer found that the nearest replacement unit was a two-day drive by truck, but with this being an emergency with the coming weekend, they needed a door-to-door solution as fast as humanly possible. The supplier had recommended Airfreight.com to handle the ultra-critical shipment, so the engineer called Airfreight.com and was connected immediately with an Expeditor.
How We Solve It
Based on the hotel’s urgent request to have the unit delivered as soon as possible, the Expeditor researched the particulars of the area and found the nearest international airport was a two and a half hours drive away and a second airport that served as a regional hub for aircraft as large as the Boeing 737 was two hours away. Taking a little time to research further for a closer airport, the Expeditor found a small public-use general aviation airport with a single 3,000 foot runway that was only 6 miles from the casino.
The Expeditor presented several options, and the engineer, with the approval of the hotel manager, chose the first option, which was the transportation of the unit from the supplier to the nearest airport, the dedicated cargo air charter from the supplier airport to the receiving airport, and transportation from the receiving airport to the hotel.
While the Expeditor coordinated with the supplier to arrange for the pickup, and the trucks and aircraft to transport the cargo, the engineer was on the phone with a local short-haul helicopter company because the unit would need to be lifted onto the roof.
Several hours later, the components that made up the HVAC unit were loaded by forklift onto the aircraft and secured for the three-hour ten-minute flight. During the flight, the Expeditor provided regular in-flight tracking updates so the hotel manager and engineer would know exactly when to expect the delivery. At the receiving airport, the pallets were loaded onto the waiting truck and transported to the hotel.
For a unit replacement that could have taken several days and resulted in weekend cancelations of hotel reservations and lost revenue at the casino, the job was completed in a little more than 24-hours thanks to the personalized attention and coordination by a dedicated, experienced Expeditor.
